REN-O-VATE! Bastows team up with the Daleks for GOSH

This weekend Bastows were proud to support The Gathering, a wonderful charity event held in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. The event was organised by some dear friends of ours, The Sons of Skaro charity Dalek owners group.

The Sons of Skaro formed in 2016 and travel the country with their collection of screen-used and replica Daleks, the iconic villains from Doctor Who. The group raises money for good causes and attends many events, collecting donations and thrilling audiences.

The Gathering was their first full event, and the aims were ambitious. The centrepiece of the event was an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering of Daleks (currently set at 95 in 2008). Sadly the goal was missed by just 8, but with a lower proportion of Dalek costumes and more replica Daleks on site, the event was a great success and a sight to see!

There were various Doctor Who-related celebrity guests including former Doctor Colin Baker and companion Nicola Bryant, entertaining talks, Q&As, costume competitions and workshops, and the raffle for a full-size Dalek decked out in GOSH livery raised a great sum with the prize going to a very loving- and surprised- winner.

We were delighted to support this unique event for Great Ormond Street Hospital by sponsoring costume competition prizes and donating to the efforts, and will continue to seek out original, fun and family-friendly events like this- community groups doing awesome things deserve every bit of help we can give.

Congratulations to the hard working Sons of Skaro team and their Daleks for a fantastic event and for raising such an incredible sum for GOSH.

Donations can still be made via PayPal to [email protected] using ‘Gathering Donation’ as a reference- every penny will go to GOSH and is greatly appreciated.
